【嘉宾介绍】朱海坤，中欧国际工商学院金融学助理教授
朱教授毕业于荷兰蒂尔堡大学获得金融学博士和硕士学位，在南开大学获得经济学学士学位。研究领域主要集中在实证金融科技、金融政治经济学、行为公司金融等方面，教授课程包括行为金融学与金融科技等。他的两篇论文已经/将发表在《金融经济学期刊》、《管理科学》（即将出版）等英国《金融时报》认定的50本全球经管类权威期刊上。他曾获“金融研究学会（SFS Cavalcade）亚太会议最佳论文奖2017”、“金融系统架构与稳定性国际研讨会（IWFSAS）2018年最佳论文奖”、“Finance Down Under会议最佳论文奖2018”以及“伊拉斯姆斯经济学院顶尖研究员2022”。
【内容提要】
Relying on labor unrest as shock to local social stability, we show that state-owned enterprises (SOEs) react to nearby unrest by creating additional employment at the expense of firm productivity. Such effect is larger when labor unrest is in the exposed SOEs’ industries, local fiscal budgets are solid, and governing mayors are better incentivized. SOEs obtain more fiscal benefits when absorbing additional labor. Contrarily, non SOEs do not react to labor unrest, and their performance is unaffected. Further analysis indicates that our labor unrest events appear random. Our findings imply that SOEs can alleviate the adverse economic impacts of labor unrest.
